Passenger Etiquette
Riding together means looking out for one another. Here are some simple courtesies that help make every trip on Santa Clarita Transit safe, comfortable, and pleasant for everyone.
At the Bus Stop
- Let riders who arrived before you board first.
- Signal clearly to your operator that you’d like to board, especially at stops without a shelter or marked platform.
- Keep the area around the stop clear for other waiting riders and pedestrians.
- Avoid leaving belongings or setting up camp at stops, shelters, or transit centers.
Boarding and Riding
- Board at the front and exit at the rear when possible, especially during busy times, to help keep things moving smoothly.
- Move toward the back or center of the vehicle if you’re able, so other riders have room to board.
- Signal your stop a block or so ahead of time so your operator has a chance to prepare.
- Be ready to step off promptly once the vehicle comes to a full stop.
Sharing the Space
- If the vehicle is full, offer nearby seats to others rather than using them for bags or belongings.
- Keep the aisle and doorways clear of luggage, strollers, and other items.
- Be mindful of riders who use mobility devices, service animals, or may need extra time or space to board and settle in.
- Keep your voice down and phone conversations brief and considerate of those around you.
- If listening to music or media, please use headphones.
Keeping It Clean and Comfortable
- Please refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, or vaping on board.
- Please don’t ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Take your trash with you and avoid leaving items behind when you exit.
- Be mindful of strong scents, perfumes, or odors that might bother nearby riders.
- Keep your belongings tidy and contained so they don’t spread into neighboring seats.
Respecting the Vehicle and Each Other
- Treat vehicle equipment such as seats, doors, lifts, and displays with care.
- Be patient and courteous with your operator and fellow passengers.
- Keep interactions respectful; harassment, threats, or aggressive behavior have no place on board.
Traveling with Bikes, Bags, or Equipment
- Load and unload bikes efficiently, and let your operator know before you do.
- Keep bags and packages compact and manageable so they don’t take up extra space.
- Fold strollers and carts when boarding, if you’re able, to keep the aisle clear.
