Exciting Zero-Emission Initiatives Coming in 2025
The City of Santa Clarita is making major strides toward a cleaner, more sustainable future. In 2025, we’re rolling out new zero-emission initiatives to help reduce our carbon footprint, improve local air quality, and provide reliable transit options for our community. Read on to learn more about our latest eco-friendly solutions!
What Are Zero-Emission Vehicles?
Zero-emissions vehicles (ZEVs) produce no harmful tailpipe pollutants during operation. Instead of relying on fossil fuels, they use clean energy sources such as electricity or hydrogen. By eliminating combustion engines, ZEVs help cut greenhouse gas emissions, reduce air pollution, and support better public health.
Why They Matter for Our Community
- Cleaner Air: Fewer pollutants mean improved air quality for everyone.
- Health Benefits: Reduced emissions translate into a healthier environment and lower risk of respiratory problems.
- Reduced Noise Pollution: Zero-emission vehicles operate more quietly than traditional diesel, gas-powered, or even the City’s current CNG buses. Lower noise pollution helps improve quality of life by reducing stress levels and promoting a healthier, more peaceful community.
- Sustainability: By embracing zero-emission technology, we’re preserving our resources and protecting the environment for future generations.
Introducing the New EV Van for GO! Santa Clarita
We’re proud to announce our first zero-emission vehicle as the newest addition to GO! Santa Clarita’s curb-to-curb on-demand microtransit service. This cutting-edge fully electric van, dubbed the EV GO! Van, began service in January 2025, setting the stage for an all-electric GO! fleet in the years to come.
- Carbon Elimination: This one EV Go Van eliminates as much carbon each month as planting 57 trees and letting them grow for a decade!
- Dedicated Charging Station: We’ve built a dedicated EV charging station designed to power this vehicle and all the additional EVs planned for our growing GO! on-demand fleet.
Buckle up besties! We’re in our eco-friendly era and ready to spill the tea on how Santa Clarita Transit is slaying in 2025. Come watch us cook here: https://t.co/pNQjh0AEpn pic.twitter.com/u9ONvzFEIv

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses on the Way
We’re also expanding our zero-emission program with hydrogen fuel cell buses for our local transit service—another exciting initiative in eco-friendly transit.
What Are Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses?
Hydrogen fuel cell buses use hydrogen gas to power an electric motor, generating only water vapor as exhaust. This means no harmful emissions and a smooth, quiet ride.
Why Did We Choose Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses?
- Extended Range: Hydrogen buses can travel much farther before needing to refuel, meaning fewer stops and less disruption to daily routes.
- Uninterrupted Service: The longer range of hydrogen fuel cells allows us to keep buses on the road longer and serve our community more efficiently.
- Fast Refueling: Refueling a hydrogen fuel cell bus takes only a few minutes—similar to filling a conventional gasoline or diesel vehicle.
- Scalability: With the City’s goal of a fully zero-emission fleet, hydrogen fuel cell infrastructure can scale to meet increasing fleet sizes and can handle refueling multiple buses with minimal downtime.
These will be the agency’s first hydrogen fuel cell buses, with more slated to arrive every year. We’ll welcome our first seven hydrogen fuel cell buses in Fall 2025, marking another big step toward a fully zero-emission transit system.
Building Our Own Hydrogen Fuel Cell Fueling Station
To support these new buses and all future hydrogen-powered additions, the City is constructing its very own hydrogen fuel cell fueling station—the only facility of its kind in our region! This new station will be capable of fueling our entire fleet as it continues to grow, ensuring smooth operations and a reliable, self-sustaining supply of clean energy.
Thank you for supporting our journey to a zero-emission future. Together, we can make Santa Clarita cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable for everyone.
